Burdick Labor Day Celebration

The Burdick community will hold their annual Labor Day Celebration on September 4-5. Sunday will begin with church services at the tennis court. The evening entertainment will be Rusty Rierson, Nashville recording artist, at 7 pm. Monday will kick off with a Fun Run, Bake Sale, Inflatables, Pie Auction, and entertainment. Concessions will be available. The Parade will be at 2 pm followed by the Flint Hills Gunslingers and the pedal tractor contest.

Library Book Sale

Don’t miss the upcoming Council Grove Public Library Book Sale on September 8-10. Thursday evening is for Friend members only night but you can join at the door from 5-7 pm. Friday hours will be 9 am – 6 pm and Saturday is 10 am – 2 pm. There will also be a $3 bag sale for the week of September 12-16 during regular hours. Come and support the local library and take home some good reading material!

 

Heroes Helping Heroes Fishing Tournament

Don’t miss the 2nd Annual Heroes Helping Heroes Fishing Tournament at Council Grove City Lake September 10-11th. This unique event will pair veterans with local fisherman. If you have served our country and love to fish, contact Marty Thurman at 316-644-5656.

 
Mother K 5K

The Mother K 5k is a memorial walk/run event on September 10 to raise money for a scholarship given to a Council Grove High School graduate in Katie Gant's name. You can register online or pick up/drop off a form at the Council Grove Republican.

New Exhibit at the Volland Store

A new exhibit will open on September 11, at the Volland Store with a reception for Susan White. She is the new featured artist with Meditations in Thorn Works/Burn Drawings. The exhibit will run through October 16. The store is open 12- 5 on Saturdays and Sundays.

White City Gospel Jam/ Second Sunday

Enjoy an Acoustical Jam with those who love Gospel music. Come to play or come to listen! Bring lawn chairs and bug spray on Sunday, September 11, and meet at 300 W Makenzie St, White City, for an afternoon of musical fun from 4:30 – 6:30 pm.

Webinar- Social Media Strategies for Business

TCT and the Council Grove/ Morris County Chamber of Commerce will host a Webinar for businesses who wish to learn more about Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday, Sept 14, 6-7 pm.  The class will be held at Butler Community College, 131 W Main.  Space is limited so call 767-5153 to reserve your spot.

Community Wide Garage Sale

Save the Date for the Community Wide Garage Sale on September 17th.  Clean out the clutter and get a fresh start for Fall!  Contact the Chamber Office to sign up by Tuesday, September 13, at 5 pm and be added to the map. There is a $5 fee to be included. Maps and listings will be available on the day of the sale at local convenience stores.

Voices of the Wind People Pageant

The biennial production of the Voices of the Wind People Pageant will be on September 16 & 17.  The pageant will be held in the old Neosho Riverbed at the outdoor amphitheater at 8 pm each evening.  This story depicts the changes affected by two vastly different cultures. As the Kaw Indians were being relocated and European American settlers were beginning to populate Council Grove on the Santa Fe Trail, the dynamics of these two cultures co-existing proved to be intense. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Chamber office or online at voicesofthewindpeople.com

 

Voices of the Past

Trail Days Café will host Voices of the Past on Saturday, September 17, with a Beef & Noodle lunch with all the extras.  The speakers will be the Steve White family telling about his ancestor, Thomas White and family, as they came to this area in the 1850’s. The family has remained a vital part of Council Grove for several generations.  Call 767-7986 for reservations, as seating is limited.  This event is sponsored by the Historic Preservation Corporation with proceeds going to the Arts & History Center.

Council Grove Fall Festival

The Council Grove Fall Festival on the Santa Fe Trail will be Saturday, September 17, from 12 – 6 pm in the Riverwalk Park.  It will feature an abundance of fun events for the whole family. Food will be available on the grounds.  Other events on this date include the Flint Hills Heritage Day at the Highground Museum, and the Grassland Grind, a bike race on mostly gravel roads. Visit the Morris County Farmer’s Market on Tuesday evenings at Main & Mission (Burnett’s Tire Care lot) from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Grab some fresh produce, arts & crafts, or homemade goodies to enjoy.
