Farmer's Market

Visit the Morris County Farmer’s Market on Tuesday evenings at Main & Mission (Burnett’s Tire Care lot) from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Grab some fresh produce, arts & crafts, or homemade goodies to enjoy.
Staging the West

“Jeremiah Ariaz: Staging the West” art exhibit will open on June 5 at the Volland Store. There will be an Opening Reception on Sunday, June 5, 12 -5 pm. The artist will speak at 2 pm. “Staging the West” sheds light on how the West continues to be romanticized, both in the United States and beyond. The artist, a native of Great Bend, Kansas, Jeremiah Ariaz has exhibited internationally and is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Louisiana State University. Ariaz will travel to Volland for the exhibit and will remain for several weeks as an artist in residence at 24098 Volland Road, Alma, KS. The art exhibit will continue on Saturdays and Sundays 12-5 pm thru September 4.
 
Kansas State Historical Society

The Last Chance Store and the Kaw Mission will be the site of the Kansas Archeology Training Program from June 2- 17. Various opportunities will be available for area residents to learn more about the history of the area, the Santa Fe Trail, and different architectural designs, etc. There will also be a chance to bring in old photos for scanning and saving as well as a night to bring collections for identification. Fiddler on the Roof, Summer Youth Musical

The Morris County Community Arts Council will hold the Summer Youth Musical, Fiddler the Roof, on June 24- 26. The Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 pm at the Council Grove Junior Senior High School Auditorium. The Sunday show will be at 2 pm.

Washunga Days

The annual Washunga Days celebration will be held June 17-19 at the Riverwalk Park. There are a few new things this year, one being the Vintage Market. Reitz and Rust is in charge of organizing this event. The Pinup Contest, in conjunction with the Car Show, is another first time happening. The Washunga Swim will give those with buttons a chance to cool off for free at the pool in the hot time of the day. Of course the favorite parts of Washunga Days will continue as always in addition to the 9 live bands which will perform. Buttons are available at half price of $5 until June 16 for ages 6 and up. (5 and under are free) You can purchase them locally at several businesses and the Chamber office or you can order online at www.washungadays.com. Second Saturday

Council Grove PRIDE and the Community Arts Council are sponsoring Second Saturday Under the Stars & Arts in the Park Experience. On June 11, the evening will begin at 6:30 with an Art Experience at the Girls Scout Cabin. Max Byram and the band “Call it a Night” will also be preforming from 6:30 – 9 pm. After the concert, the movie Zootopia will begin. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray for your evening under the stars!

Swim Lessons and Cool Fun

The Aquatic Center will be open for fun this summer on Mon – Thursday, noon – 6 pm and Friday and Sat, noon – 7 pm. Sunday hours will be 1-6 pm. The pool will not be open if the temperature drops below 60 ‘. Swim lessons will be held on June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 25-July 29, and Aug 1-5. You may call at 767-6516 with questions.

Community Blood Drive

The Community Blood Drive will be held at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall from 11 am- 5 pm on June 13. Call 767-5994 to make reservations. Walk ins are welcome also.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life of Morris County will be June 4 from 11-5 pm at the Council Grove Jr/Sr High School. The event begins with food service at 11:00. The CG Singers and CG Choraliers will entertain at noon in the gym. The ceremony starts at 12:45 with the introduction of the Torch Bearer for this year, and recognition of the survivors, caregivers, and teams. Stay for a day of reflection, support and memories.

Concert at the Marina

Enjoy the live music of Rudy and the Lost Boys at the Council Grove Marina, 1002 Lake Rd, on June 11 at 7 pm. Bring lawn chairs and bask in the great outdoors and hum along with the tunes.

·Flint Hills Rodeo will be held in Strong City, June 2-4 at 8 pm each night.

·The Symphony in the Flint Hills in Chase County features music on the prairie in the evening of June 11.

· 
CASA will have a fundraising Run for the Child 5 K in Junction City, to benefit the 8th Judicial district on June 4 at 7:30 am. See www.casa8jd.org to register.

·Santa Fe Trail Parish will provide a Lake Ministry for Campers with a Sunday Worship Service in Canning Creek Cove this Summer on Sundays at 8:30 am
